Reyes — Epiphany

A national public holiday and, for most Spanish families, the real Christmas.

The evening before, 5 January, is the Cabalgata de Reyes — a huge parade of the Three Kings through the centre, throwing sweets into the crowd. Get there early with a child on your shoulders or don't bother.

Eat roscón de reyes: a ring-shaped cake with a hidden figurine and a dried bean. Whoever gets the bean buys next year's.
