🎟️ Free museum hours in Madrid, all in one place
When each of the big ones stops charging.
Madrid gives away a genuinely absurd amount of world-class art if you turn up at the right hour.
The big three
- Prado — Mon–Sat 18:00–20:00, Sun 17:00–19:00
- Reina Sofía — Mon and Wed–Sat 19:00–21:00, Sun afternoon (closed Tuesdays)
- Thyssen — Mondays 12:00–16:00, permanent collection only
Always free
- Museo de Historia de Madrid
- Museo del Romanticismo (free Saturday afternoons and Sundays)
- Museo Cerralbo (free Thursday evenings, Saturday afternoons, Sundays)
- Museo Arqueológico Nacional (free Saturday afternoons and Sundays)
- Museo Sorolla (free Saturday afternoons and Sundays)
- CentroCentro at Palacio de Cibeles — exhibitions usually free
- Matadero Madrid — most things free
How to actually do it
Queue forms 30–45 minutes before free entry at the Prado and Reina Sofía. Everything else you can walk into.
Do not try to see a whole museum in a free two-hour slot. Pick a wing. Come back another evening — it is free.
Times shift, especially around holidays. Check the museum's own site the morning you go.
